Mac driver takes forever to load

    Hi Maude HENRIOT

If the driver is slow to start, then there's probably too many things trying to start on your Mac at start-up.

I would advise checking that and maybe removing some items: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh21210/mac

Also, I would not advise to add Wacom as a login item since it's already set-up to start as soon as possible. Adding it to Login items might interfere.

Hi there, @Chris Boon, I will take your advice of the previous post and contact the support. As you might have guessed, I have the same issue for a while now. If it is OSX related it might as well be Wacom driver related, right? Anyway I will contact support, hopefully they might already be aware what the issue might be. It's kind of annoying to have to wait a couple of minutes after you boot up a relatively fast Mac from the 2025's.

    Cheers

I have this problem as well. M1 Mac Studio running OS X 14.0 (Sonoma), Wacom Driver 6.4.5-3, on a PTH-860 tablet. After a restart or a cold boot, driver takes several minutes to load before the pen will respond to input. Annoying as hell.

Same problem here. M1 Max / Ventura 13.2 - driver takes forever to load on restart or re-login AND even more annoying: once computer goes to sleep WACOM will not wake up unless cable is pulled/reconnected or restart altogether. Happens with a older intous tablet as well as the newer 2023 tablet: must be the driver?

After more than 20 years of Wacom Tablet usage, this has not been an issue until 2023.

    Hello,

I have exactly the same issue it takes forever after startup to get access to the pen.

    Configuration : M1MAX, Ventura 13.5.2 and WACOM Intuos Pro PTH-660 driver 6.4.5-3.

Could WACOM support team take a look and provide support on how to improve startup time ?

My situation got a bit better, after not letting the system reopen apps after a restart.
To remove the wacom driver from the startup items is news to me, I have to try this!
But I think that wacom support asked to put it there... strange.

Exactly the same problem. Latest system Sonoma 14.5 on Mac Studio M1 Max. Intuos Pro PTH-660 and Latest Wacom macOS Driver 6.4.6-3. System is loaded, ready, but I can't move cursor waiting almost 1 minutes until able to do anything! Even when loaded, it freezes for fractions of seconds twice, until some processes are fully completed.

Extremely annoying - especially if compared to my another computer Mac mini M1 where I have very old and strong Intuos 3 - which loads immediately with the same system, plus - cursor is ready even before logging into system - which is completely impossible on newer model until all is loaded.

And no - I can’t remove any of my 2 apps from startups - need my dropbox and font manager to be ready all the time too. Removeing it doesn’t make any difference anyway, so this is not relevant in my case.

So Wacom - there is something wrong! It’s wrong for very long time.

    Please provide solution ASAP!

    Hi Pawel Windys

As mentioned earlier, the driver is programmed to start as early as possible, as soon as you enter your user account. If the driver is not starting smoothly then there can only be either an issue with the OS, or with a 3rd party app. The driver cannot control system priorities.

If you would like us to check this further, please collect some logs and contact the support team.

Same issue over here. Wascombinatie takes up to 2 minutes on Mac Mini M1 before it can be used.
Bought a new one, because maybe the older Wacom ran on older software.
However, new Wacom is even worse.

Also, when Mac Mini wakes up, it takes a lot of time before Wacom can be used again.

Tablet is Wacom Intuos S + Bluetooth. Mine is connected using USB.

Until now, no solution for this really annoying issue.
Contacted support, send movies, collected logs.
Several options were suggested; however, no solution.
    Really bad..........

    Thank you for replies João

However I am not so convinced to the explanation.

Please note that on the same computer, with driver WacomTablet_6.3.15-3 and Intuos 3 connected - does not have such problems. It can manage, and loads in about 5-10 seconds.

This leads to obvious conclusion - that it is not just limitation of OS, and in fact possible to solve it, right?

    Hi Pawel Windys

Well, you are comparing drivers that are 10 years apart and made to run in completely different Operating Systems.

Bit of history: With Mac OS 10.11, Apple started introducing major changes in the OS in relation to security. Later with 10.13 and 10.14, these changes started having a bigger impact on our drivers, causing several issues for users. To workaround this, a new frame work called IOManager was implemented starting with driver 6.3.38 in 2019. This allows the driver to run more stable, but requires permission checks.
Point is, comparing those to drivers is not a good example.

Please note that driver is built to start always as soon as possible and to also recover as soon as possible from a crash. It's is currently so fast that most users don't even notice when a crash occurs. However, we cannot manage boot order or how the system allocates resources to launch all the processes it needs to start at launch.

All you can do from the system is add and remove processes from Login Items but as far as I tested, that never really helped the Wacom driver.

To my knowledge, Mac OS doesn't allow you to customize this any further either but someone who is more knowledgeable might know how to do this.

On a mac mini m4 it takes 14 seconds from pressing enter at login until the pointer moves.

    This with an intuos CTL-4100.

I'm not sure what is more disappointing the location of the powerbutton or this...

But the driver can be fixed in software.
