Installing Wacom Drivers - “You are attempting to install an older version of the driver.”
Trying to install the latest wacom drivers. Older mac air, on Big Sur. Previously had a bamboo installed on it from 2013 or so? I got rid of everything from wacom on it, everything is gone. This is the error message:
”You are attempting to install an older version of the driver. Remove the current driver, and then try again.”
Followed this guide: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264541-How-do-I-uninstall-manually-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-macOS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer
Shut off wifi, disabled bluetooth, tried the newest and oldest drivers for Big Sur, got rid of files and preferences the guide missed, shut off firewall, disabled csrutil from recovery mode just in case, no other security software running. Rebooted a million times. Nothing from wacom is on the computer. I’m out of ideas, same error message no matter which drivers I use. Any help?

Hi Matthew Mercer,
What was the older model you had? How did you uninstall the previous driver?
My guess is that you were using a much older version of the driver which steps are not fully covered here: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264541-How-do-I-uninstall-manually-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-macOS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer
Please try:
- Install Driver 5.3.7-6 - https://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/consumer/pentablet_5.3.7-6.dmg
- Use the utility to remove the driver (note that this driver will provide a different version of the utility mentioned in the Uninstall guide from before)
- Look again for any other lingering files and try to install the driver again.
Then you can try to install the latest version of the driver from here: https://www.wacom.com/en-de/support/product-support/drivers
If you are still having issues, then please contact our support team and provide System detail file from the Apple System info:

I did what you asked and got the same message. The model of the Bamboo was a CTH-470, but when I received the laptop the drivers weren't installed. I did upgrade the operating system to Big Sur (as far as I could go with this laptop) and deleted the rest of the users. As I said before, I got rid of all the files and preferences that Wacom sprinkles around the OS after you would uninstall the software. I was hoping to actually use my new Intuos tablet with this mac but right now I can't.
