Main Thread: Art Pen!
고정됨(Comment From Wacom: We have made this the main/pinned thread for this concern. Please share in the comments your passion for the pen, including how you use the pen and what programs you use it in. )
Original Post:
The Art Pen is INCREDIBLY useful if you actually digitally paint. I use mine all the time. If you want to understand how useful it is look up WEBBYPAINT on Instagram. The rotation feature is implemented in the software and allows you to paint like you would in real life with a flat brush. The rotation feature is WAY more useful than the tilt functionality. I don’t miss it and never use it, even on my Apple Pencil. If Wacom doesn’t figure this out, eventually some competitor will and eat Wacom’s lunch, which would be a pity considering that Wacom had this functionality first. PLEASE BRING BACK THE ART PEN!

I was heart broken when I found out about your discontinuation of the Art Pen. Barrel Rotation is essential to my style of painting. It makes my paintings look more like my traditional works. I cannot imagine moving forward in digital painting without it. To have to Make my brush rotate will be clunky and intrusive to my work flow. Without it, the flips and fine edges I create with a twist from flat to slider edge will be gone. It will make this much harder. Please find a way to develop a pen that will do this again. I am still using my Art Pen, and you say you will no longer support it. Does this mean with updates to my wacom pad I will lose the ability to rotate? If so, I will have to take my computer off line and continue with my old pad and pen until a new one is developed or I go back to painting traditionally.

I found an online shop that still sold an Art Pen here in Germany.
Bought it immediately and then upgraded my tablet to an Intuos Pro.2 -
I really hope this hasn’t become a lost cause. The new OLED tablet that’s come out would be fantastic to use with the Art Pen.

As predicted, someone has capitalized on Wacom’s bad decision to get rid of the Art Pen. Apple just released the Apple Pencil Pro, which has barrel rotation. As soon as the iPad Mini gets updated I will be purchasing one. I may never buy a Wacom product ever again afterwards.

But it will not work with my ipad pro:(. Wacom you suck1 -
It's too bad I don't use any apple products
Hopefully my art pen will last a few years before Huion or something adds barrel rotation to their pens :/3 -
I’m not experiencing schadenfreude right now. I’m not an Apple fanatic, but I do use Apple products. Wacom’s blunder is simply what happens when you dominate a market for too long and ignore your base.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE ART PENNNN it's so integral to my workflow and the only reason me and many other digital artists choose Wacom over other brands!!!
Also, now the ipad has barrel rotation on the apple pen so please bring it back or else we may all switch to procreate...2 -
Hello, wacom developers, for the production of the pen, very sorry, but still hope not to give up the development of this product, for the art practitioners, this is currently all the series of the most comprehensive digital pen, looking forward to the arrival of the new! Let me guess if it's called wacom-kp-704E, ha ha ha

Bring it back and make it more like the ZP600.

I'm planing to buy an Art Pen and this is very bad news. If I like it and then it disappears completely I'll be devastated like all these other people in this thread (and what I'm hearing a lot is that they aren't as sturdy as other pens and break more easily).
I'm rooting for you, Wacom. Don't let Apple beat you.

I have been using the Art Pen for about 10 years. As an artist barrel rotation is very important for my artwork. I use the Art Pen every day and NEED the rotation. I will not purchase a new pen without rotation. Please bring it back.

Over the past ten years, I have used a Cintiq and the art pen exclusively, and my execution of the work I produce keeps getting better and better. My potential as an artist before Wacom was declining by the passage of time due to a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease called Friedreich’s Ataxia. It robs me or balance, strength, and coordination, initially making oil painting hard, and 15 years ago, it became impossible. Since using the art pen, I have been reaching the heights of my potential. So I am disheartened to find the art pen discontinued.
But I will be a man and not whine or beg. I ordered, two really expensive art pens from eBay. When they wear out, I will move on to a different creative area, probably trying to master vector art on illustrator. It was a good run, but all good things come to an end, and I will say good riddance to Wacom when that time comes.

Please provide an update on the status of the Wacom art pen. Several months ago, in an official comment on this site, it was mentioned that "Wacom had to suspend production as some components were no longer available." and "Wacom is investigating the possibility of recreating the Art pen with updated pen technology."
Therefore, will you please let me know the status of Art pen. I use the art pen daily with my Wacom Intuos Pro 5. My primary software is Photoshop. I would like to know if there has been any progress in your investigation into the possibility of recreating the Art pen. Thank you.

Hi Deb Rice,
I don't have any additional information for now. When and if we are able to create a new version of this pen, it will be announced through the usual channels, but I will also update this thread.

I’ll not threaten to stop using Wacom products because I won’t, and it’ not productive to hurl insults at the one company everyone wants to develop a replacement product. What I will do is continue to request that Wacom do the research and development to move this technology forward to the newest possible improvements without compromising what already exists in a loved working stylus. We know Apple made a pencil with rotation but it’s far from equal to the Art Pen. I use Procreate too but it’s not as powerful as other painterly software on the market and while my iPad is a nice consumption device, it’s no Wacom tablet. I’m realistic and won’t count on using other options but I will continue to petition for the return of a digital pen as worthy of the Wacom name as the Art Pen is. Huion made my light table and it’s decent for what it is, but they fall short of what Wacom has to offer and while their tablets are more affordable, the quality simply falls short. Most in the digital art community know this and would miss the Wacom tablet with or without the Art Pen and know it’s worth the additial Wacom tax for quality. None of my Wacom pens have broken and I’ve had many, not one of my tablets have failed either and if anything they last and last as durable products. Instead I’ll thank Wacom for what they do, what they’ve done, and what they continue to do with confidence that they won’t let us down. If they say they are working on new pen technology I’ll believe it, but my greatest hope is that it’ll be something all of us will be proud of, Wacom included.

Adding my vote for a new Art Pen version as soon as possible.
It was the only thing that made me stay with Wacom and I'm so sad I lost mine recently... Barrel Rotation is such an underestimated feature.. If Apple can do it I'm sure a technical solution can be found without this missing component ( it's a suspicious reason by the way )
I hope we can see good news about it very soon...
I'll continue searching for available stock that doesn't come from shady chinese re-seller ^^3 -
I'd like to express that the problems with the production of the Art Pen are SHOCKING to me. The Art Pen is the single reason I'm still using a Wacom tablet. The Art Pen is the most valuable hardware asset I own and I wouldn't be able to continue my work without it or a comparable substitute.
I'm saying this as a user who has worked with Wacom tablets for 25 years. I've been a member of the evangelist program for many years. My artwork is on the packaging of the Cintiq 13HD. You HAVE to find a solution for barrel rotation on your pens. Apple is doing it with their new generation of Apple Pencils. It would be a shame if Wacom would stop to support a feature that they have invented in the first place.

I am an artist who depends on the art pen. Please get a new design back in production. Barrel rotation is a huge need for digital artists! esp professionals it prevents damage to hands/wrists by having such a unique feature ! Even Apple has a new pencil with the feature and i’m sure it won’t be long before one of your many competitors designs one. When that happens you’ll see a huge number of artists/users go to whomever gets it first!! It is the single most useful tool we have!!

I just completed another update to my Wacom Intuos Pro. I want to thank you for a great job of keeping your customers up to date with great software. I hesitate each time but do the update anyway. I always wonder if the update will remove the pen rotation feature from the tablet. It would ease our minds if you would promise to never remove the pen rotation feature for those of us that have Art Pens. Or at least warn us in an obvious manner before we update so we can make an informed decision.

I recently got a 7th generation iPad mini with the new Apple Pencil Pro. It’s nice that it has barrel rotation but it only makes me that more bemused and frustrated that Wacom STILL hasn’t addressed discontinuing the Art Pen, all the while barrel rotation has become a revelation to a lot of Procreate users on the iOS platform.

@BruceBoulineau you make a good point! Will tablet updates affect art pen rotation? Hoping all the tech/software for rotation is in the pen and not driven by the tablet software. A word from Wacom would be appreciated by all, I'm sure.

My art pen is so old, that I think it is starting to fail. After I am working with the art pen for about 45 minutes it stops working, then I will pick up the Pro pen 2 and it works. After a while I will go back to the Art Pen again and then it's working again. I don't think this has anything to do with the drivers or it wouldn't work at all. I would purchase a new Art Pen in a heartbeat if I could find one.

I’m still waiting on the art one too!!? Apple pen might just take over. tge newest apple pen has rotation feature and with a 12.9 in ipad pro you can easily connect to mac computer and use like a visible drawing pad. Wouldn’t be surprised with all the touchscreen tablets and computers for someone to take that tech and develop a pen to surpass art pen!! Usable on all devices! Artists like us truly need that rotation feature to work and wacom doesn’t seem to be trying to effectively develop and sell us a new art pen! Wacom.. wake up! not everyone will stay with a company that doesn’t seem to care about a huge section of its longtime users!!!!

Any updates on this? Discontinuing the Art Pen will no longer make Wacom a main differentiator in the tablet display space. So many other excellent products at much cheaper prices. The Art Pen was the gold standard and the only reason to stick with the Cintiq product line. Even if not available yet, are there reasons we can expect a similar product in the near future and so should hang on to our Cintiq loyalty?

I don’t get the quiet on this, considering that Wacom has been releasing new products lately. Some feedback or an update would be very much appreciated!

The Wacom Art Pen. Sine qua non. It is essential.
The Art Pen is simply an essential tool for a wacom tablet. There are 2 medium wacom tablets and 2 cintiqs in use in my studio, and each has an Art Pen. The normal grip pens live in a drawer along with the air brush pen which comes out rarely. I've been a professional wacom user since 1994. I worked digitally coloring comic books for DC, Vertigo, Dark Horse, & Marvel for 20 years. A wacom was essential for coloring comic books in photoshop. I purchased an art pen the second I learned about it. Rotation is such an essential feature to making the medium versatile. Whenever someone asks me to teach them anything about digital art, I tell them to buy a wacom and an art pen then call me back. It's an essential. I have no idea why you would want to use a wacom without one.
Make a new one and include it with every tablet. Just make the rotation an essential included feature. If you don't then life time customers will start looking at the competition. Until the Art Pen disappeared, It had never occured to me to look at another manufacturer. I want to keep supporting you, so don't stop supporting us. People who didn't buy an Art Pen didn't know how useful it was. Period. People wonder why you didn't include the rotation with every tablet when they learn about it.
Make a new one. Figure it out. Please.
Thanks. Nathan Eyring

I imagine people at Wacom get tired of hearing anger & threats to use other devices because of this rotation pen, but even if people do eventually use something else it won’t force this company to invent a replacement. Software like Rebelle 7 made a rotation option and it’s not as good, but it is an option. I have an iPad but can’t say it has the same feel as my Wacom when using Procreate or another art app, so the Apple pen won’t fix that.
Maybe if we simply say please… Wacom, help those of us in the art community out. It would be great to hear back from one of you that a new pen or rotation option is in the works. I promise not to ruin the surprise! Even if not, please let us know because many of us have been waiting a long time to find out if our dreams of rotation are forever dashed or if there is the posibility of the beginning of a new era in rotation products coming our way soon.
Appreciate you!

Regarding the Art Pen. Please update the status of the art pen that was discontinued. You have managed to develop and market 25 PENS on your website for Wacom tablets and screens but you can't revise/update one art pen model with brush rotation. What's up with that?
4 -
Still waiting for the new art pen with barrel rotation!! This should not be that hard to redesign and produce art pen with today’s Ai technologies!! You’ve obviously spent a fortune n engineers to develop touchscreen monitor style tablets but not the art pen!! no matter what “ screen “ i use to do my designs i cannot duplicate the brush strokes needed in fine art without that pen! being able to turn the “ brush is paramount to an artists “ signature brush strokes!! In this age of digital art growing leaps and bounds we need that ability to create personalized brush strokes for recognition of our work! please get this pen back!
