Cintiq 16 cursor is not corresponding to pen location in vertical direction
Issue: when moving the pen away from the centre of the Cintiq, the cursor starts to move ahead from the pen location. This only happens in the vertical direction.
Other observations:
- This only happens with a Dell laptop on Windows 11. No problems using Acer laptops with Windows 10 or 11
- Before installing the Wacom drivers, the tracking is fine. Only once the driver is installed does the problem start
- The registration of the pen is correct. Using the Wacom diagnostics tool it shows the correct coordinates based on where the pen is on the screen
- The screen on the Cintiq seems a bit stretched. The round icons on the taskbar are slightly oval shaped in the vertical direction. The screen resolution is set to the recommended 1920x1080.
- Using the pen offset I found out that the cursor is about 53 pixels ahead of the pen when reaching the top and bottom of the screen. Since the discrepancy is happening in the direction of the movement, this offset is not a solution
Tried so far without result:
- Ran the screen calibration
- Reinstalled the Wacom drivers, including a rollback to a previous version
- Updated windows
- Updated Intel drivers
- Reinstalled the display drivers
- Tried different screen resolutions. It is clear this has something to do with the resolution because if I pick a resolution that is not optimal for the horizontal, the offset starts to show on the horizontal too.
- Tried different computers and none have the same problem.
I am at the end of my options here. Was hoping anybody else might have any other suggestion to try.

Hi Fred Jongeneel,
Thanks for reaching out.
Can you clarify which version of the Cintiq 16 are we talking about? Is it the DTK1660 or the DTK168?
Is the Cintiq setup as extended display, or as mirrored from the main Dell display?

Joao,
This is the Cintiq DTK168 and is used as an extended desktop display. If I remember correctly, the issue also shows up when using it as a mirror. I don’t have access to the tablet at the moment but will be able to confirm that later today.
Regards,
Fred

Hi Fred Jongeneel,
Thanks for confirming. Can you tell if the Cintiq is properly being detected as a display on the Windows Display Settings? That version of the Cintiq has a 16:10 aspect ration and 2560 x 1600 pixels so it's strange that it recommends 1920x1080.
Please review the connection and make sure that the graphics card of that computer is fully up to date. You can also manually force this resolution but Windows should be able to detect this properly on it's own and set the correct display aspect ratio on it's own.

Joao,
Thanks, you have pushed me into the direction of the solution! For future reference for other people running into this here is the solution (for my situation):
- The display settings on the laptop only had 1920x1080 as the highest option for the Cintiq
- A search brought up the suggestion to update the BIOS of the laptop. After doing this, an option for 1680x1050 showed up. This resolution solved the cursor offset, but the display quality was now worse than HD
- Another search came up with a cap on the HDMI signal for this laptop (Dell DC15250). The HDMI on this machine does not go beyond 1920x1080.
- Back to the search and now it suggested to check if the machine had a USB-C connection that supports Display Port. Low and behold, it does have a DP. After rummaging through the spare cable box I found a DP USB-C cable, hooked it up, and 2560x1600 showed up on the Cintiq.
Thanks very much for the quick reply and the suggestions. All good now.
