Wacom firmware update issue
I have 3 employees that have the WACOM PTH-660
They di not have admin rights on their computers
When I run the Wacom control center app as admin I cannot install anything. I get the message that the installer needs admin permissions. It seems permissions are not inherited from the control center.
Manual download and install of the driver works.
When I try and run the firmware update I get the following message:
: Error: Update target device not found. Please re-download the package.
The tablet is connected
Due to software restriction policies I cannot run this from the appdata folder
It is in a temp folder on the C drive
Any help would be appreciated from me and the design team.

Hi David Phipps,
Thanks for reaching out.
I would like to know more about your setup so we can help you. Can you clarify how your device is setup and which exact steps you are doing?
When you say you run the Wacom Center as admin, do you run it by right clicking the .exe or to you login to the entire session as admin?
I also think having this in a temporary folder might not help so if this could be changed, it would probably help.
As a side note, since you are running in an IT environment, perhaps this is of use for your team:

I right click the Wacom Center and run it as my admin account
Logging into the remote machines as admin is not an option. I can only use the "Run as" option. The Driver and firmware are downloaded and try and run from C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\wactemp
This fails due to software restrictions put in place on our machines. Nothing is allowed to install from the appdata folder
I then downloaded the driver from the Wacom site to a folder on the C: drive and installed it from there.
That installed with no issue. I ran it as my admin account
I had one of the designers grab the firmware update from his personal machine. and we transferred it to his work machine
I ran the firmware update from the same directory I used for the driver update and ran it as my admin account.
I then get the error : Error: Update target device not found. Please re-download the packageThat is the complete decription of the steps I took and their outcomes

Hi David Phipps,
Thanks for the details.
I have confirmed that the firmware package is not meant to be ran on its own. The Driver team has provided us some alternatives to perform the firmware update which would fit your setup:
- Have the user update on their home machine.
- Have the Admin update the user's tablet using their Admin machine.
- Run the firmware update manually and remotely, running as an admin with these command line arguments and the downloaded package, "WacomFWUpdater_3.22.exe -testpid 0x0357 -auto pen, touch, bluetooth"
- Please note that the downloaded package is only for the model that showed the firmware udpate (PTH-660). Other tablets may download an entirely different package.
- Also note that the provided arguments are for this specific model (PTH-660), and won't work for others.
Hope this helps.

We are running into the same issue as the driver and firmware updates extract and run from %localappdata%\temp which is restricted in our environment. Updating firmware and software on a system should be happening in a directory that requires administrator rights.
"WacomFWUpdater_3.32.exe -auto pen,scalar -port 255 -serial {deviceserial} -path {devicedirverpath,HID#VID_056A+PID_03....}"
I was able to pull out the WacomFWUpdater_3.32.exe file but even running that with the suggested parameters also attempts to extract to %localappdata%\temp.Also extracted the files from that updater and there is a setup.exe file in there but looks like there are custom parameters to point to the driver files as just running it seems to just disconnect/reconnect the device but nothing updates.
