    Hi Horst Fuchs

Thanks for reaching out and for explaining the situation.

For the record, the Wacom Driver (and Wacom Center) have no influence on how the display component of the Cintiq works. In other words, the Cintiq should work fine as a display, even without the Wacom driver installed.

With that said, there are somethings that are confusing me:

I start the computer, the 27QHD not yet, and in the settings the display is detected, with several setting options.

This is technically not possible. Until the Cintiq is powered ON, it will not be detected neither by the Wacom Center, nor as a display in the display settings on your Mac. Can you confirm what the exact behaviour is?
If what you wrote is correct, this sounds like a bug with the Mac computer which thinks the Cintiq is still connected when it is not and when you actually power the Cintiq ON, is not able to detect it.

    Additional questions:

    • When you start the Mac, do you start from sleep, or full reboot?
    • What happens if you power cycle the Cintiq (Powering OFF and ON a few times) while your Mac is ON?
    • What happens if you unplug and plug the HDMI cable back in when your Mac is ON?

    Cheers

    Hello João,
thank you for your quick reply.

Indeed, the 27QHD is recognized, when it is turned OFF, while in the macOS system settings it is unrecognized as soon as I turn the Cintiq ON. Really puzzling behaviour. When I start the Cintiq it powers up, shows the wacom logo and posts a black image after that. I wonder how it would even be possible...

    ANswers to additional questions:
-I tried a full reboot, and also having the mac shut OFF for several minutes and boot again.
-Powercycling does not provoke any different behaviour. Tried maybe 50 times the last days.
-Unplugging and replugging the HDMI while the mac is on (and the cintiq as well) does not change the behaviour. Tried several times; also via the HDMI to USB-C hub, in all available thunderbolt/usb-c ports of the mac.

    Best regards, Horst

    That is very, very strange.

Since we know that the Cintiq is working as expected, the issue seems to be on Mac side.

I did some internal research and couldn't find anyone else reporting this. There are other online reports of issues similar to your with Mac OS and other external displays, but unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging back in seems to sort these.

I think at this point it would be a good idea to check with Apple. The system should definitely not be detecting a display that is not powered ON.

Thank you for your swift reply!

I got in touch with Apple as well, let's see if they know something.

However here ist the error message, when it is
connected and turned on, not recognised by macOS, but kind of by Wacom Center Driver, and I try to change settings of the Display:
"Compatible display device not found: To use this app connect a compatible display device such as Cintiq or MobileStudio Pro."

When I want to open the Wacom on-screen keyboard, this is the posted message:
"You have attempted to run an application (Keyboard Viewer) which cannot be found or run."

Maybe these messages indicate to something?

    Best regards,
    Horst

    Hi Horst Fuchs

So the Wacom Display Settings confirms that the OS is not able to communicate with the display. In short, it confirms there is no connection working.

The other error message happens since a few more modern iterations of Mac OS where there is no actual shortcut to the Keyboard Viewer that can be triggered by the Wacom Cintiq shortcut.
