Smart Battery Management Options for Wacom software
Dear Wacom Team,
I’m a long-time user of the Wacom Intuos Pro and I plan to continue using my 2025 model for many years to come. I primarily use the tablet connected via cable, as it provides lower input latency and instant responsiveness after periods of inactivity — a perfect setup for desktop workflows.
However, when the tablet remains connected for long sessions, the internal battery continues to charge unnecessarily. Over time, this constant charging can degrade battery health and, in worst-case scenarios, may lead to swelling and/or venting. Since the battery is not user-replaceable, it becomes the most likely component to fail long before the rest of the device.
To help preserve the tablet’s longevity and maintain user safety, I would love to see battery care options introduced via a software or firmware update. Here are a few suggestions that could make a big difference:
-
Battery Charge Limiter
Allow users to set a maximum charge threshold (e.g., 80%). The software could periodically allow a full charge cycle to keep the battery calibration healthy, similar to how many modern laptops and smartphones manage long-term battery wear.
-
Data-Only Wired Mode
Add an option to disable charging when the tablet is connected via USB. This would let the cable handle only data transfer, ideal for users who keep their tablet plugged in for extended desktop use.
I understand these might sound like small additions, but for artists and professionals who rely on Wacom tablets daily, these features could significantly extend the product’s lifespan and sustainability. I genuinely hope you’ll consider implementing similar options in a future software or firmware update.
Thank you for continuously supporting creatives with such reliable tools!

Just registered only to support the topic starter. I am going to try a data only usb-c cable soon. Will report how it worked out for me once ready.

Tried a data-only cable just now, cut the red wire according a guide. Well, it doesn't work. so we probably need some software solution if it is possible at all. Best scenario is to provide charging options, i.e. stop charging at some level, say 80-85% and start charging at 15-25%
