Intuos Tablet turning touch on and off constantly
I have an intuos pro medium tablet on a Mac running OS Monterey. I'm working in graphics heavy programmes like photoshop, premiere and zbrush, but this problem is not specific to any software. My tablet is driving me absolutely crazy by turning touch on and off. It freezes the pen and tells me "Touch Off" on screen before working for a few minutes and then doing it again.
I've done all the usual things: reinstalled drivers, touch is disabled both on the hardware and in the preference panels as I prefer not to use it, but I have tried having it on to see if it will stop doing this but is just tells me "Touch On" instead. I also wear a glove when I'm working as I don't like my skin making the tablet greasy.
Has anyone else experienced this?

has anyone tried installing the latest Ventura update 13.5.1 ? has this fixed it for you ? I just tried it on my home laptop and it seems to be working... I am now waiting for my work to update my macbook, so I can use it. Getting very close to ordering another brand... this is hampering my ability to work, in a major way.

Hi João!
Are there any updates on the drive to fix this bug. As many here working with the tablet has become unbearable. It was an essential tool to my workflow and now its just unusable.
Thank you for any news or new work arounds you might have.

Actually updating now will let you know. But the system i use the tablet on is an iMac Pro 2017 Xeon processor. See what happens

Hi Damian Siqueiros,
Unfortunately I have no further information at the moment but be sure to follow the thread. I will provide an update as soon as I have more information.

I can say , so far, in OS 13.5.1 and running Wacom driver 6.4.3-2 is "working". But when I was running OS 13.5 and running Wacom driver 6.4.3-2 it worked for a week - week and half before starting its issues again. This is first day of full use under new OS and driver so stay tuned. Previously, I just turned off touch on tablet and that kept it from doing the ol' "touch on - touch off" routine. Then it started freezing up the system so I uninstalled and used mouse until now.

I've had to return my tablet... had to opt for another make, as my day to day work is so heavily impacted. sorry to have to leave Wacom :-(

Hi João,
I'll give it a shot, thanks.

Hi
Brett Clark,
Keep us posted. The latest driver doesn't fully fix the issue, but should at least help with recovering from the crash after the "Touch" message pops up.Anonymous User, really sorry to read that but I understand. We will continue on trying to improve the situation as best as we can in the meantime.
Josh Courlas, let me know how that goes.

I take it the OS update didn’t do the trick? What other brand did you opt for. Asking in case mine starts to go south again..but so far on second day it’s working.0 -
With 13.5.1 it's still a nightmare. Not just losing connection every few minutes, but full freeze at least three times a day requiring a system reboot. Surely this is being replicated by the Wacom coders?
Edit* as I type this message the Wacom cursor has frozen and I have to go and get the old Apple magic mouse out of storage.

Day Three and OS 13.5.1 with Wacom Driver 6.4.3-2 is still working fine. Will give it a few more days to see if it truly works on my system at least. Again, my system is pre apple silicon. iMacPro 1,1

Hi curious Josh Courlas, does the iPad with pen work well with Adobe Creative apps? It's becoming really difficult editing with clients with the tablet freezing and crashing. I have to start looking at alternatives.

The strange thing is João, is that our older M1 Mac Studio doesn't have this problem, but the newer M2 Studio does. I know there's lots of variables, but both platforms are stock-standard Apple systems running Ventura.

Hi Peter Corbett,
Well, I have been using an M2 Macbook Air from 2023 (Ventura 13.5) I have not seen the Touch message yet. I don't think the crash it is related to the chip or OS version.

UPDATE...
Going on 6th day of new driver on OS 13.5.1 (intel processor) and so far so good BUT has anyone noticed they're crashing mostly if Adobe products are open? I have not crashed yet but have noticed when I tab out of Premiere and go to Photoshop or After Effects there is a "big gulp" moment when it pauses a couple seconds - no cursor movement and then launches and things are fine. Just wondering if there is an issue between Wacom driver and Adobe something.

Hi Brett Clark,
That is a known issue and is documented here: https://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/professional/releasenotes/Mac_6.4.3-2.html
You don't necessarily need to do the workaround but it should help.

Good to know, thank you!

Update...
Ok, I feel pretty silly that I didn't know this until now. I noticed the tiny "touch on" switch on the left side of my tablet, switched it off and it's been working fine ever since. I've been using it for over an hour without issue, so fingers crossed. I've never liked all the "touch" options anyway as I just want a simple drawing tablet, and it seems like the that's what's causing the driver problems. This looks promising but I'll see how it goes...
Peter Corbett I haven't used adobe programs on an ipad before but from what I hear they work pretty well.

Yeah I've noticed if you just toggle the touch switch to the off position the tablet works no problem. I used the touch features here and there and so far on my system the update has been working couple weeks now without the touch on/off deal. The "touch" feature does seem to be the brick.

I am having the same problem since upgrading to Ventura, I have done all of the things listed and I get the touch on touch off and then it doesnt work at all. I have reinstalled the software and then although it's installed it's also telling me the security setting prevented Wacom system software from loading. I have went in to the security and privacy to make sure everything is turned on there which is it but it just keeps doing the same thing . Very frustrating makes my tablet unusable, I thought maybe it was my pen and ordered a new one for my 660 M Intuos tablet but that didnt make a difference either, Please help

Hi Ella Wright,
I am no sure the issue you have is the same exact one documented in this thread. Normally there are no permissions error messages with this bug.
For the permissions, please try the following:
- Unplug the tablet
- From the Mac security permissions used the "-" button to manually remove All Wacom related permissions from "Accessibility" and "Input Monitoring"
- Remove and reinstall the driver: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264581-How-do-I-uninstall-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-Mac-OS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer-
- Reboot your Mac
- Plug the tablet
- Follow the prompts to re-add the permissions back to "Accessibility" and "Input Monitoring": https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/9753655984663-Is-there-a-driver-for-macOS-13-Ventura-

My computer is an Apple M1 Pro on a Ventura 13.5.2, I updated the Wacom to the latest drive available (6.4.3-2) and the issue still occurs.

Okay UPDATE...mine was working fine for a few weeks and poof! it's back to the ol' freak out show. Keeps toggling touch on / off. If you turn off the touch option it'll work but thats not why I got the tablet..I got it for the pen and touch features so uninstalled and back to mouse.

Hi Brett Clark,
Aside from the bug, there might be something else wrong with your tablet.
If the tablet goes crazy when touch is ON, there could be an hardware issue with the sensor.
Please check our diagnose guide here:
Turn ON touch and see if it activates without you touching the tablet. If it does, then we can confirm there is an issue with the sensor.

Hi, Brett Clark,
The same with me. My mac system had an update /if this is the reason/ and then touch on and off started anew often then ever...The driver problem is bigger than ever. The touch sensor is working perfectly. I tried bluetooth connection but even then it's the same so it's not about the connection via adapter too.

Did anyone ever find a resolution for this? I'm having the same problem and support has been ZERO help. The latest driver did not fix the issue and, in fact, caused the issue for me.
NOW .. the words "touch on" are stuck on my screen even with the tablet turned off. Wacom has some serious issues going on and it's incredibly frustrating to try to work.

Only solution right now folks is uninstall and reboot and go back to using mouse or another tablet. If anyone knows of a comparable tablet with touch features let me know.

I posted a couple of months ago that this problem seemed to have gotten resolved when I upgraded my computer and my USB hub situation. I'd just like to update that by saying that I'm still dealing with that bug, although it's causing me a lot less grief than it did with my previous set-up. Nonetheless, it's making me reboot several times a week in order to fix it. I sure wish Wacom would come up with a solution.

Clay Zhou, Entrance 1514, Lindsay Elliott,Kenneth Huey Hey there...uninstall the recent driver and try installing vers 6.3.44-1 from 2021 from the Wacom site. Its been fine and dandy so I'm gonna try upgrading to a slightly more recent driver maybe first one in 2022 avail until I run into the issue again BUT just uninstall and download/install an older driver.
Update: I am currently running driver vers 6.4.0-5 (first 2022 vers) and so far it's good but thats been about a day. I had used the 2021 vers for a week with no issues whatsoever.

My driver stop and freeze for 5 seconds every 10 minutes since few weeks. I try to relaunch the latest driver every hour, but it's not working much fine.
So i install the old 6.4.0-5 driver and it seems to be ok now (Thanks Brett).
I hope Wacom team is really working on a stable driver, because I can't work on these shaky products anymore.
