Main Thread: Art Pen!
Pinned(Comment From Wacom: We have made this the main/pinned thread for this concern. Please share in the comments your passion for the pen, including how you use the pen and what programs you use it in. )
Original Post:
The Art Pen is INCREDIBLY useful if you actually digitally paint. I use mine all the time. If you want to understand how useful it is look up WEBBYPAINT on Instagram. The rotation feature is implemented in the software and allows you to paint like you would in real life with a flat brush. The rotation feature is WAY more useful than the tilt functionality. I don’t miss it and never use it, even on my Apple Pencil. If Wacom doesn’t figure this out, eventually some competitor will and eat Wacom’s lunch, which would be a pity considering that Wacom had this functionality first. PLEASE BRING BACK THE ART PEN!

Hi Everyone! We created the Art pen in 2008 but unfortunately, we had to suspend production as some components are no longer available. Wacom is investigating the possibility of recreating the Art pen with updated pen technology, but there are challenges as barrel rotation is very unique. If we determine a new Art pen is feasible, it will take time for us to start production. Sorry no definitive answers but stay tuned, be patient and keep telling us how you use the Art Pen.

Hi Allison Westbrook,
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I am happy to see how passionate you are about the art pen.I don't now if there are any plans for a next gen art pen but I will share your feedback with the team.

Please do! It’s mind-boggling that they’re abandoning this.

Watch this video and you can see how helpful brush rotation is in rendering

I use my ART PEN every day for painting in Photoshop! I can’t think what I will do if it fails and I can’t get a replacement! PLEASE BRING BACK THE ART PEN!!
7 -
I agree 100%!!! I've been teaching painting in Photoshop for nearly a decade and the Art Pen has been a critical part of the success of both myself and my (SEVERAL THOUSAND) students! It is the only pen on the market with barrel rotation that allows us to rotate the brush head to get different marks -- just like a real paintbrush. It will cripple so many painters if this pen is gone forever.
PLEASE RECONSIDER or give us an alternative pen with barrel rotation!9 -
Do not get rid of the art pen. So need it for my digital painting!!!!
7 -
Bring back this pen! People have entire companies based off of the ability of yhe Art Pen!!!
6 -
I agree with Allison! This is a terrible idea to discontinue this product, especially since you have nothing comparable on the market. The barrel rotation for digital artists is extremely important!
7 -
I am so sad to hear the art pen is being discontinued. I belong to an entire community of digital painters that utilize the art pen. Please reconsider abandoning this design or including the rotation in a new design. Thank you!

OMG I just tried to order one this am and found I could not. I have ONLY used this pen with my cintique . Is wacom trying to drive its customers away to the new tablets.
PLEASE bring this oen back asap! Why would they do this? Is there another version coming? A unique pen with barrel rotation and they discontinue?5 -
Why on earth would you discontinue a product like the art pen?!?! It is the most valued tool by digital artists. You will now risk losing your most loyal brand advocates. Why bother to use Wacom any longer? The decision to drop this product is foolish and short sighted.

Wacom: "Intuos Pro. Redefining the professional standard in creative pen tablets. Wacom Intuos Pro offers you more natural creative control than ever before."
Also Wacom: Art Pen discontinued.
Customer: Huh? Wacom tablets are different from the competition how???
6 -
Yikes - this seems like an incredibly short sighted move on Wacom’s part, unless they plan to bring brush rotation functionality to all their pens. It is such a basic, essential feature, I’m frankly surprised it isn’t standard.
7 -
I teach photographers all over the world to paint in Photoshop with the art pen. Why is it being discontinued? I make custom brushes to react to the pen as well.
6 -
Another vote for not discontinuing the Art Pen! There are so many of us that still use it and most especially the barrel rotation functionality. If you aren't going to update, please at least continue offering the current one and continue it's support.
7 -
OMG-please, for the Love of God, do not get rid of the Art Pen!!!! The rotating barrel is what allows us to paint in Photoshop & Corel, in a very authentic manner. The Art Pen is what sets WACOM apart, from other pen & tablets, because those don’t offer a pen that has a rotating barrel.
Not having this takes away our ability to create one-of-a kind digital paintings.
Please, please PLEASE keep it!!!
6 -
Please keep the art pen!!! Or, at least provide an upgraded pen that incorporates the rotation that allows it to act like a real brush. This is critical for the artwork that many of us create with PhotoshopW

Wacom, please do not discontinue the art pen. The barrel rotation is extremely important to artists everywhere. Most of the art that has been created in a Wacom is due to the many capabilities of the art pen!!
6 -
Please do not abandon the Art Pen! I use my Art Pen exclusively for my painting in Photoshop. Almost all of my custom brushes utilize the rotation feature, as that is how brushes work. Without it, when my Art Pen dies, I may as well sell off my Wacom tablet (I am on my 4th tablet at this point) and go with the next competitor who releases their version of the Art Pen which does support rotation.

Please don’t discontinue the Art Pen! It’s crucial to creating beautiful realistic brush strokes in my art pieces. You do a serious damage to the Wacom digital art community.
6 -
Please keep the art pen. I'm still learning ,taking classes and course's to hone my craft and creative side. Please do not take the art pen away from us artists.
6 -
The art pen is an extremely useful tool! Why on earth would this go off the market?

i’ve posted at least two support tickets , a formal email and will be calling in person tomorrow to protest. Trever dobe no real advertising or product education on using the art pen so it would sell like hot cakes to any user even just editing not painting it is extremely helpful to turn the brush in the hand to follow directions while using this brush for painting!!! i told them i’ll find a manufacturer of another tablet that will understand how big this art pen ability to rotate on hand is for all digital artists and editing even!!

Wacom, I have used your tablets for twenty years. The rotation feature in the Art Pen was a game changer combined with custom brushes in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop especially as I was a traditional painter merging mediums. My goal was to emulate organic media with digital tools and that is impossible without the rotation feature. The rotation allowed for custom dabs to react to the stroke similar to how an artist flicks the brush on a canvas. If you remove this feature permanently you will lose a monumental following of once loyal customers who use your product full time. Rotation is paramount for those that seek to gain a looser editing style, an organic paint mark and even digital calligraphy! There is NO substitution. Please bring the rotation back!

I use the Art Pen every day for painting in Photoshop. The rotation feature is essential to my brush strokes. Please don’t discontinue it!!!
5 -
We need the art pen back!!!!!
4 -
Please don’t kill the Art Pen!!! It’s the only pen I use! I need it for digital painting!! If you don’t have it I will have to look elsewhere.
6 -
Please bring back the art pen. I use mine every day for digital painting, and it's just not the same without it.
5 -
I use my Art Pen with its barrel rotation every single day. Its invaluable. If you are discontinuing because you are going to launch a new product with barrel rotation then please say so. If you are discontinuing for another reason please say why. Its so hard for us to understand as so many artists use and rely on this pen. Please bump this up your chain of command if necessary to give us loyal customers over many years some answers. Thank you
