Wacom Cintiq 12WX on MacBook Pro?
I was recently given an old Wacom Cintiq 12WX by a wonderful art professor of mine. I was really excited about receiving it, and decided to try and set it up on my device at home, but I've run into a few roadblocks. I've done some tech help research of my own and realized that essentially what I'm trying to run is...not going to work. So, I've come to the forums in hopes that people techier than myself may know of any possible way this can work, because in all honesty, this is a good tablet, and it doesn't need to be thrown out. It just...is old.
The tablet is a Wacom Cintiq 12WX with a 12.6in screen, and if further information about it is needed I can grab numbers and such. I have the proper drivers for the tablet, and I've made sure they're the right ones. My laptop is a 2021 MacBook Pro with a 16in screen. It has an Apple M1 Max chip and is running Sonoma 14.3. I'm aware that Sonoma/M1 Max Chip aren't necessarily compatible with this tablet due to...Apple things. I had downloaded an emulator, thinking maybe if I could emulate an older software I could run it that way? But the emulator doesn't seem to be working, so that's a whole other issue lol.
If anyone has any tips/tricks, I'd love to hear them? If there simply is zero possible way this is going to work, then you can feel free to let me know. I just really don't want to throw it out. ^^' It's a nice tablet.
CLARIFICATION! The tablet display works perfectly fine! I can mirror the screen from the Mac to the tablet and I can see everything and interact just fine. But I can't adjust pen sensitivity or screen borders because the Wacom Center doesn't work (The devices tab simply reads "No devices connected." I can sign in with my Wacom ID, though, and it picks that up just fine.). The Mac also doesn't really see the tablet as a device ("Wacom Tablet" in System Settings just reads "Waiting for synchronization" and "There is a problem with your tablet driver. Please log out, and log back in. If the problem consists, reinstall or update the driver.").

Hi Sen Syrdal,
So, just to confirm, you managed to install Wacom Driver version 6.3.40-2, and connected the USB cable right?
Please make sure the Cintiq is being seen by the system under USB devices - even if not detected by the Wacom Center.
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/system-information/syspr35536/macThe error message you are seeing is related with something that can happen if the driver is not properly installed, or in your case, not officially compatible. Please see: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006339922-What-does-the-error-message-There-is-a-problem-with-your-tablet-driver-mean-and-how-do-I-fix-it

Hello there, thanks for your reply.
Yep, the drivers (6.3.40-2) are installed and the USBs are connected.
The Cintiq is not being seen by the system, and I know that the error messages are related to incompatibility. As I said before, I'm aware that I'm trying to connect two incompatible devices—the Cintiq 12WX only works on certain editions of MacOS, and while I can't find the exact names now, I know it's not compatible with Sonoma. I was hoping that by installing a older driver, it might not make a difference, but it makes sense that it does.
My question is not as much why the tablet is not working with the laptop, but rather is there any feasible way to get it to work with the laptop. Like I said previously, it's a good tablet and a good laptop—the only issue is that a lot of the system software is incompatible. Which is annoying, but that is a whole separate rant.

Hi Sen Syrdal,
That you were able to install the driver is already a good sign. Although I can't be sure exactly if and how to make it work, there is still hope.
I have just installed 6.3.40-2 on the latest version of Sonoma on an M2 and it's working fine with my Intuos Pro. I don't have a Cintiq 12 to test but I can confirm that the driver works.
If you are still getting this error message, then please try the following:
- Make sure you don't have any 3rd party apps interfering: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/9255930218903-How-should-I-troubleshoot-Clean-My-Mac-issues-that-can-disrupt-Wacom-components-and-services
- Remove any Wacom permissions under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring using the "-" button
- Uninstall and reinstall driver 6.3.40-2 https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264581-How-do-I-uninstall-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-Mac-OS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer
- Follow the screen prompts and add the required permissions by Mac OS

Hey there,
Sorry this took so long, some stuff came up. I went through the options you listed, and it did halfway work! The MacBook now sees the tablet, and I have the option to adjust tablet settings through system settings.
The only persisting issue is that the Wacom Center refuses to see the tablet, even though the laptop does. It simply tells me there's no device connected, although it's not throwing back an error code or anything. I'm fairly used to this problem with Wacom devices (it's happened with every one I've ever used), but in this instance, I'm not sure if there's a way to solve it, and if so, what it would be.
Other than that, though, the display is working fine, and I am able to calibrate pen sensitivity/location and such through the system settings, so I don't think the Center not working is that big of a deal?
Thank you so much!!

Hi Sen Syrdal,
I don't recall exactly, but I think the Cintiq 12 was never supported in the Wacom Desktop Center originally.
As long as the system is responding to pen input, there is an image on the display and you can change the settings, you should be fine.
