Photoshop Lens Blur - Wacom latency in refinement tools (blur and focus)
I'm on an iMac and have had major issues with the Wacom drivers for the last few years. Someone even wrote a script that makes it easy to restart the driver when it konks out and the pen stops responding (Wacom support wasn't any help - they were aware of the issues but didn't seem to have any answers). Unfortunately, when Adobe came out with an update a few months ago, the Wacom tablet didn't handle it so well. I get tons and tons of latency, but it's absolutely deadly when attempting to use Lens Blur's refinement tools - blur and focus. After a couple of seconds using the brush to refine the result of this tool, the latency begins - the brushstrokes take several seconds to catch up, freezing the program in the interim, then this extends to *minutes* of latency. It's just not worth using if I have to use the Wacom pen and tablet. When I use my mouse with these refinement tools, there's no problem. Yes, those tools do use a lot of system resources, but somehow the Wacom pen and tablet make it even worse.
I've really got to find a replacement tablet system, but in the meantime, has anyone else had these latency issues and possibly found a way of mitigating them?

Hi Stephen Chappell,
The main difference between mouse and pen input is that pen input will also provide pressure and tilt data to the operating system.
The way you describe the issue, sounds like an issue on Photoshop Side since the issue only starts after using the tool a few times. Note that if the lag was caused by the pen data and driver alone, this would be present in the entire system from the start, not just Photoshop after doing some strokes. You also mention that this got worse after an Adobe update so please try the steps here:

Hey João - yes, but it seems that the Wacom drivers aren't able to keep up with the development of the Photoshop ecosystem, and so there's this ... memory issue, I suppose. I've tried all those steps previously and then redid them yesterday, tweaking them further. No help, I'm afraid. This problem also exists in Lightroom, so it's not limited to Photoshop. I've had difficulties with the Wacom driver crashing time and again, ever since I got this tablet. I've switched out the tablet, the pen (twice), uninstalled and reinstalled the driver again and again, to no effect. I'm not the first person to have these difficulties. I had hopes that the driver update in December would solve some issues, and it made the driver somewhat more stable, but didn't help with the memory/lag issues. At this point, I guess I'll have to move on to another tablet manufacturer, because this is badly affecting my work. Thanks anyway.
