Cintiq 27QHD + Macbook M3 Max (Sonoma) - Weird display switching

    Hi Christopher Zebrowski

Interesting. I have never seen this issue before. Couldn't replicate this either but I don't have a Cintiq 27QHD to test at the moment.

Regardless, the operating system should be able to tell that the display is disconnected and stop mapping the desktop to that area.

When this happens, you can open System Settings > Displays and see that the system is showing?

If you also open the Wacom Center, is the Cintiq still detected as well?

    Hi,

Here's a step by step of what's happening:

When the 27QHD is turned on:

    - in Wacom Center it's visible

    -in Settings/Displays it's visible

    When I turn off 27QHD:

    -it disappears from Wacom Center

-it still is present in the displays list (nothing happens)

The moment I turn the 27QHD back on:

-it appears back in Wacom center after short WACOM logo splash screen

    - It disappears from the Settings/Displays initially (!!) while the Wacom "boots" (the WACOM logo splash screen) and re-appears once the tablet is booted and loads the normal desktop screen.

So it appears Wacom Center works like it should, while Mac OS has a problem recognizing when the Cintiq switches off and recognizes it's switched off only for 2-3 seconds after I turn it back on while the tablet "boots" (or whatever it's doing while the WACOM splash screen is present). It's really annoying. Any solution suggested? Maybe a downgrade to older driver version? I'm on 6.4.4-5 right now.

Oh and a small off-topic by the way the whole community site and main wacom page - it's impossible to log in using Chrome browser, I had to switch to Safari to be able to anwser you.

Can I receive a follow-up please? It's been 10 days and it's frustrating / affecting my work. Cheers

    Hi Christopher Zebrowski

    Sorry for the late reply.

From what you describe, this seems more like Mac OS is not getting the message that the second display has disconnected / powered off.

Does the same happen if you simply unplug the video cable?

My recommendation for now is to try a different video adapter if you are using one, and report this issue to Apple.

As a side note, the Wacom driver only controls the pen input. It has no control over how a display is detected by the operating system. In other words, if you connect your Cintiq even with the Wacom driver uninstalled, the operating system should still be able to detect that a display is connected and send a video signal to the display.

Forgot to mention - about Chrome, if you clean your cache and cookies, does that help? I have had no issue using Chrome on Mac OS so far.

No, if I disconnect the cable, Mac OS recognizes that the device has been disconnected.

I've also noticed that there are some pen registration issues - when I draw in Photoshop, if I draw / do things quickly, sometimes Wacom keeps registering the pen still drawing eventhough the pen has been lifted from the surface (and keeps drawing along the path the pen hovers above the screen). I am absolutely sure the pen is ok, I am working on a M3 Max - it has to be the drivers or newest Photoshop or combination of both (before the upgrade I was on my old iMac retina 5k with Photoshop from around 2021). Any information on that? I can't be the only one that experienced this issue. CHeers

Just checked and this "lift lag" is present in other CC apps such as Illustrator as well. So it has to be the Wacom driver

    Hi Christopher Zebrowski

For the "ghost display" issue, this still sounds like a Mac OS issue but please gather some logs and contact the support team: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/10010268158103-I-want-to-report-a-driver-bug-How-do-I-collect-Wacom-driver-logs-
I will also try to reproduce this on my end in the meantime.

As for the lag, it's unlikely that the driver will cause the lag itself but there could be an issue with the performance settings on the Adobe apps. Please try the suggestions below and see if this helps.

If the issue persists, a video and logs would also help.

Just to be clear - the pen doesn't lag behind the movement. What lags is the moment it should stop drawing- I've already lifted the pen and moved it a bit and the pen, even though it's no longer touching the surface, is still drawing a line on the canvas. Maybe you understood it correctly, I just wanted to point this out for the record.

    Hi Christopher Zebrowski

Thanks for clarifying and yes, that was my understanding. This is why I would point to the performance settings and this "lag" is normally a representation of the software struggling to render the stroke in the canvas in real time. I don't think the hardware on the M3 Max would cause this natively so my best guess is that is really just the settings on the software or perhaps some optimization issues with Adobe and M3 architecture.
