Mac driver takes forever to load
Hi!
at every startup ( osx), I have to wait forever for the wacom driver to load and the tablet to be usable. It seems to load after most of the other extensions and Background apps. Is there a way to change the loading order, so the wacom driver loads before all the other stuff?

Hi João,
Thanks for checking on the search problems. On the mystery of losing control of the pen problem, I’d just like to emphasize that unplugging and replugging doesn’t “fix” the problem., it temporarily allows me to keep on working until the next time the connection from the computer to the pen disappears. It may be a hint for where the Wacom troubleshooters should look for a fix. But turning something on and off doesn’t really fix the problem.0 -
Is there any resolution to this problem yet? people have been complaining about the lengthy, frustrating delay before Wacom starts up for several years. It was denied as being a problem for a long time and then Wacom finally admitted that they are aware of the problem. There's now been silence for some months.
My tablet still takes 60-90 seconds to be useable after everything else is useable on my computer. I just have to sit there waiting doing nothing. Such a frustrating way to start each session.
It appears that Wacom is still doing everything it can to pretend that this is not happening.

Truly, this is kind of ridiculous, on my new Mac Studio M4 Max, boot up time is like a couple of seconds. But then I can't use the Wacom pen for at least 40 seconds. It brings my speedy Mac Studio back to the stone age. This is unacceptable for such a premium product. (Intuos Pro 2025 model) And like mentioned before, why is this threat not findable on the Wacom Community page?

Hi
Why it does not surprise me. 5 years like this, and still not a solution now.
I owned Wacom tablets for 30 years, these were great product until 2020 (around).
I bought one cos it is supposed to be a great experience, unlike mouses, and here we are all, disappointed.
Disrespect for your customers.
and no shame.

Hi Emir Hasham, Jan-Kees Looij,
I can assure you that nothing is being ignored. Unfortunately, it is not so simple to fix.
As I mentioned earlier, this is related with the ARM architecture (M series chips) on Mac. It is not as simple as just flipping a switch or changing a line of the code. Changes like this need to be done carefully and take time to test and implement. There is also a possibility that this cannot be fixe from the driver code and can only be fixed at OS level. In an ideal world, Mac OS would also natively support basic Pen input devices (like Widows does) and this wouldn't even be a problem.
Please bear with us a bit longer. As soon as I hear anything about a release with a fix, I will update the thread.

I have been a Wacom user for an eternity and since Apple changed the security/permissions I have been waiting for years for this fix, partially I solved it by setting the autologin, I turn on the Mac, have a coffee and when I come back the Wacom driver is finally started.
I just bought my new Mac Mini M4 Pro, the boot is awesome 7 seconds and the desktop is ready, BUT I have to stand there staring the screen for another 40/50 seconds to wait for the Wacom to be ready.
I don't have any apps that start at boot other than Dropbox/Little Snitch.
I think a high level Wacom company MUST contact and work together with APPLE to solve this problem.
This problem is not good for Wacom and Apple itself.0 -
I believe all people here can't imagine why such solid big brands like Wacom and Apple cannot communicate to find solution. Wacom tablet is not just any device, for many of us its only pointing device, so we are blocked until it's ready. After all it's all just coding on both sides (Apple/Wacom) and it should be finally solved for benefit of all brands. Why bother buying faster Mac / newer Wacom tablet if that's not helping here.
I follow this thread for more than a year. And you guys didn't progress any step. Clearly its not so important for Wacom, otherwise something would progress by that time.

One year… If it takes a minute for the Wacom driver to boot (for me), that adds up to about 365 minutes of waiting.

This problem is 1 year old. Let me try and help: Maybe it does have something to do with the 'touch' function? I can use my fingers to trigger the mouse pointer (only in the y axis) in the first two minutes, except for the pen. (PS I turned off all the functionality of the frustrating 'finger touch function', so not sure why it still reacts to my fingers...anyway) The pen starts working after approximately 2 minutes. So it might not be a 'osx driver' problem after all?

This has been a problem for years (ever since Apple Arm launched). Our studio has 20+ M1-M4 machines and it's the same issue on all of them.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon, but i'm not holding my breath.1 -
This is driving me nuts!
It can take around 5 minutes to decide to work after turning my laptop on. If I go on a break and the computer is put in lock mode, it's not working again when I come back :(
It's becoming a real wrestle just having a working tablet.
(I have the latest drivers and this tablet is a few moths old)

Same problem here. M4 Mac very slow loading. What a mess

So another year is coming to a close and still no resolution for this incredibly frustrating and time wasting problem. The beginning of every days work is spoiled by the incredibly lengthy wait for the Wacom tablet and pen to decide to start working.
Unbelievable that there’s been no discussion/progress about resolving this1 -
The delay at the start is still about the same Wacom did release a small update to get the mouse clicks working in MacOS Tahoe 26.1. The system settings app wasn't responding to clicks anymore.

It‘s getting ridiculous. I‘ve been using Wacom products for about 30 years now; they worked really well on Mac but got worse every year. Wacom obviously doesn‘t give a sh*t about its customers. If I ever need a tablet again, I will try a different product. I have started that thread over two years ago; by that time, the bug was already old.

Same here. Will look for another brand. Wacom did not progress since this thread started, for 2 years!
Most probably we are too small group to care about.

João, 5 months ago you posted here that we should give Wacom engineers a little bit more time to fix this. Since then we haven’t heard from you. You’re obviously still very active (you’ve just posted an hour ago in another forum), can you please give us an update on the progress the engineers are making to resolve this problem?

Hi Paul Holzman
Sorry, I have no update I can share at the moment. If there is an update I can share, I will.

Add me to this list of frustrated users. Why did I buy this tablet if it can’t be used with computers listed on the box that it supports? I would suggest the engineers at Wacom take this compatibility very seriously and provide a fix ASAP. You are getting into class-action lawsuit territory with this.

Justin Mysza Welcome to the list of users who spent a few hundred bucks on a device that, every time you start up your computer, frustrates you for a couple of minutes — which over time adds up so much that, through the years, you end up leaving yet another message here and then finally decide to just never shut your computer down again, because that’s the only way to avoid wasting half an hour a week waiting on a simple mouse pointer to start moving.

Name Last Name sums the situation up perfectly.
I have a lot of other input devices, they all just automatically connect when you start using them. It's frustrating the wacom can't do the same.

This situation is deplorable.
The fact that this is still an issue, it's just kind of hard to believe that there is anybody who actually cares over there at Wacom about resolving the problem. There is not a single other peripheral that I have ever used in OS X that now functions as annoyingly as this tablet. 👀 Wacom, seriously, WTH is going on over there?
João I understand you keep saying there is no update and when you have one you'll share it. Can you please tell us why there is no update? Like actually is it just because it's not even on the roadmap, what is the status of the fix for this now? Is it progressing in a queue? Is it still unable to be resolved at all? Are we hoping for Apple to fix something their side? Are Apple even aware of this issue? There's probably quite a bit more that could be shared than just "No update". What is the current status of this issue as it stands today and the likelihood of a resolution within the next 6 months?
I call upon everybody in this thread to share this conversation on Social Media, tag Apple and tag Wacom. Comment on youtube videos in the reviews of new Wacom products about this issue. Get noisy. Maybe a little embarrassment will help further the cause.

"If you're on a mac, avoid these things like the plague until such time as they pull their finger out and resolve these driver issues. . .It's negligent how poor the support has been around this issue for years now. Use another brand. https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/20341530087831-Mac-driver-takes-forever-to-load?page=2"
Sorry gang, but this little thread needs a wider audience. . .and people should know. Fix it.0 -
Christian Fitzpatrick ACS Thank you for your clear and to-the-point comment. I have been thinking to post exactly the same. The situation is indeed shockingly unprofessional.
After a year of denying that the problem even existed (despite me sending logs and screen recordings) we have now had more than a year of just being told "uh, there's a tricky issue, um... no update..." with no attempt made to explain what, if anything Wacom are proposing to do about it. No information whatsoever. Subtle digs from Wacom that it's all Apple's fault, but no attempt to talk to Apple to find a fix has been mentioned. You're right, Wacom have done their best to keep this problem hidden, its's time to start making more noise, since professional dialogue has clearly not worked with them.
I'm going to look for more places to complain about this, but I'm also not going to waste any more of my time. I'm going to order a tablet from another brand today and encourage all of my colleagues to do the same.

Hello everyone,
Really sorry if the silence gave the impression we don’t care about this issue.
This is part of a bigger project the team has already started a while ago. It is not a simple of a fix as other Mac OS issues we have managed to address in the meantime.
If testing goes as planned, we could finally be able to address this in a driver release soon. It’s too early for an ETA but we hope we can release this as soon as possible.
We’re on the final stretch so fingers crossed. I will provide an update as soon as I have more to share.
Cheers

João Can you please also explain why this is not reported as a knows issue in the Driver Release Notes? In the meantime, two OSX versions later, till that vague 'final stretch' has an actual ETA, I completely agree with Christian Fitzpatrick ACS his plan.

To add - about a 3 minute wait on Mac Studio M1. There is no world in which this is acceptable - no other vendor has drivers / peripherals which glitch out like this at startup - none. If the team at Wacom genuinley have no idea what the problem is (hard to believe after well over a year...), may I suggest you work with Apple for a solution?
