Pen input stops working after hover – MacBook Pro M1 Pro + Photoshop + Opera
Hello Wacom Support Team,
I’m experiencing a recurring issue with my tablet and would appreciate your assistance in identifying and resolving the cause.
Device setup:
-
Tablet model: One by Wacom CTL-472
-
Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.5
-
Computer: MacBook Pro M1 Pro
-
Wacom Driver Version: 6.4.10-3
-
Apps where issue occurs: Adobe Photoshop (version 26.8.0), Adobe Illustrator (version 29.6, Opera GX browser (version 15.5)
Issue description:
The pen works normally, but it stops responding whenever I lift it slightly above the tablet surface (out of hover range) — this happens only when I’m using Photoshop, Illustrator or Opera.
To make the pen work again, I need to switch between apps (using Command + Tab).
This behavior does not occur in other applications such as Safari, Finder, Adobe XD, Adobe Acrobat, or Preview.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
-
Performed a clean reinstall of the latest Wacom driver;
-
Verified all required permissions under macOS “Security & Privacy” (Accessibility and Input Monitoring);
-
Disabled hardware acceleration in Opera;
-
In Photoshop, I disabled “Use System Stylus” and tested with GPU acceleration off;
-
Created a new macOS user account to test — issue persists there too.
Observation: It seems like Photoshop, Illustrator and Opera lose the tablet input focus once the pen leaves the hover zone — as if the pen input is no longer recognized until some other system event (like app switching) resets it.
If you have any additional troubleshooting suggestions, such as generating diagnostic logs or testing a beta driver version, I’d be happy to try them.
Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno Mella,
Thanks a lot for letting us know. I have quickly tried to replicate this on Opera but it was working well on my end.
Would you mind making a small video of the issue, collecting logs and contacting the support team directly?

I've been experiencing the same exact issue. I wonder if the photoshop update has anything to do with it. Please let me know if you manage to resolve the issue.

Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for your replies and suggestions!
I wanted to share that I finally managed to solve the issue. The problem was actually caused by the latest Wacom driver version (6.4.10-3). When I rolled back to an older driver (version 6.4.8-3), everything started working normally again.
So if you’re facing the same problem, I recommend trying the older driver version.
I won’t need to record a video or collect logs anymore since the issue seems completely resolved after the downgrade.
Thanks again for the help and for testing on your end!
Best,
Bruno1
