SOLVED [Main post] [Mac OS] Modifiers (Shift, Command, Control,...)+ click not working with pen clicks after 6.4.4-2
This is the main thread regarding the new found issue with Wacom Driver 6.4.4-2 for Mac.
Please keep all your comments about this issue under this post.
Issue: When performing clicks while holding any modifier (Shift, Command, Control,…) on Mac OS, the expected action will not work. Using the same modifier with a mouse still works.
Status: Issue has been reproduced and is being investigated with high priority.
Recommended steps:
- Follow this post for updates. This way you will be notified once there is an update

- When the issue happens, it can sometimes be recovered by using the driver restart feature from the Wacom Center

NOTE: Doing this more than once may be needed to restart the driver correctly - Roll back to the previous driver version from here: https://www.wacom.com/en-de/support/product-support/drivers
Uninstall steps are available here: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264581-How-do-I-uninstall-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-Mac-OS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer-

Pauline Clack are you using Mac or PC . I'm going to try on my end replacing the driver again, just wondering what OS the change worked with

Alyson Holder I use MacBook Pro running OSX Monterey 12.5, also connected to my old Mac Pro G5 running Sierra 10.12.6. The Wacom is a few years old, Intuos pro L, and was working fine with both computers before I updated the driver. The reinstalled 6.4.3-2 also works with the old computer.

I cannot make the older version work with my OS update (Sonoma 14.0), that I am enforced to have installed. It seems I have to use the latest driver for the wacom to work at all.
I am veeeery dependant on my Wacom - my right hand.
But still cannot multiselect, alt-drag for copy, screendump in memory etc. Very frustrating! I've kept updating the driver frequently since the last 10 days, but have still not had success making it work.
Hoping for an update and a post here, that now it should work with the latest driver/Sonoma 14.... help :)

Hi João.
6 days ago you wrote:

How long will it take to resolve this issue?/Gitte

Is anything happening about this issue? It has been over a week now without any resolution...
Wondering if I should start looking at other options and better supported pen tablets.

Just installed the previous driver and for now it works but we will see how long. Still waiting for the solution.

I fixed by uninstalling latest version and going back to the one before WacomTablet_6.4.3-2 - cmd and shift clicks are now working for me.

Using Wacom since 1997. Never experienced these kinds of issues. Not only the last week, also the last months. Lagging in Lightroom, Photoshop. Installed, de-installed, re-installed. Please fix the issues, fast.

Using the driver restart feature from the Wacom Center 3 times worked for me. Issue solved thankfully!

I'm experiencing the same problem. Have used hours and hours to solve it. For a while I thought it was a hardware fault and bought a new Intous Pro, just to find that is an ongoing software problem. Please fix it.

Using MacOs Sanoma
Restarting the driver does not work.
Reinstalling the driver does not work
Reinstalling an older driver does not work
Wasted time and effort

Hi David Radisic,
This bug only exists with driver 6.4.4-2.
It is not possible that you still experience this with any of the previous versions which means, your issue is caused by something else.
Please collect the logs and contact the support team as soon as you can to confirm.

Wow, I thought I was the only one! That is exactly what I am experiencing as well!

Here is my issues and I have posted on my software issue: share and seek a solution for an issue I’ve been facing since the latest Adobe Photoshop and Beta updates. Post-update, I’ve found that none of the keyboard shortcuts are functional when using my Wacom 22 HD tablet. This is particularly evident with the lasso tool, which doesn’t respond correctly to shortcut commands for adding to or subtracting from selections. This problem extends to all shape selection tools in Photoshop, as well as the paint brush. Usually, with the Wacom pen, I could adjust brush size, hardness, or softness using the ‘scrubby’ shortcut involving a Control and Option click. However, this is no longer the case. The only workaround seems to be using an external mouse, which defeats the purpose of the tablet’s pen-centric design. I’ve attempted troubleshooting by reinstalling both the Wacom drivers and Photoshop, but the issue persists. It seems that the update has neglected proper Wacom support, leaving the pen tool non-responsive on Mac systems. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated as it’s quite disruptive to the usual workflow.

Hi João
I have upgraded to Sonoma and the older drivers have other issues with Sonoma and now the new driver, specifically for Sonoma, has this issue.

Got these error messages when I woke up.
This is my first time using wacom, very disappointing experience, hope it's fixed soon.

Sorry, I have to say goodbye to Wacom after 20+ years. My only solution is go for XP-Pen.

Hi David Radisic,
We are aware of the issues. The Driver team is working on it. Sorry I don't have more information at the moment.

The older drivers crash constantly - fail to load after sleep. This is very poor.

Unistalling and going back to WacomTablet_6.4.3-2 resolve the problem.

What a painful day. this nonsense every couple of hours.

I'm also having this issue, intermittently, on Mac Mini M2 Pro w/ Sonoma. Seems to work as expected when booting up, but after some time (sometimes 5 mins, sometimes 2 hours) the modifier keys stop working with the tablet. They work with the mouse.
The driver also seems to crash/restart sometimes on its own, and disconnect/reconnect to the tablet.
Sometimes restarting the Mac works. But it's annoying. Sometimes I have to reinstall the driver to get it to work.
The problem when the driver crashes is that I cannot access the troubleshooting "Restart Driver" in Wacom Center because it cannot sync when it opens, I see an error message.

Is there any estimated time for when this issue will be resolved?

I may also be having issues with the battery percentage being incorrect. I've noticed the tablet "dying" quicker than normal, and as soon as I plug it in - the driver crashes, Wacom Center freezes up, tablet is unresponsive.
So, I force quit Wacom Center. I open Activity Monitor and force quit the Wacom Driver process. Reopen. Suddenly Wacom Center is telling me the tablet is 40% charged, and yet just a few seconds ago it was "battery dead" and turned off. Very annoying, I seem to have to charge it 1x-2x per day even though it's not truly dead.

Same issue with the "shift" click not working periodically (2021 Apple M1 iMac w/ Intuos Pro S). Also, sometimes when I click on a tool palette in Photoshop, it takes me to the desktop instead of the tool palette. I found a way around this by changing to the "application frame" view, and then it works. My Apple Mouse is working fine when doing all of these things.

Hi Richard Beerens,
I cannot provide an ETA for now.
Hi Grace Lindelien,
It could also be that your tablet battery is simply no longer able to retain as much charge as when it was new. Please check with the support team directly to confirm.

João my Intuos Pro is less than a year old. I highly doubt the battery issue is due to age.

Hi Grace Lindelien,
Honestly, that doesn't mean much. Even if you only bought your tablet less than a year ago, there could be a defect with the battery. It doesn't hurt to check right?

I have the Wacom Intuos Pro Large and the latest driver has not solved the problem of it freezing constantly plus the driver quitting and restarting. Sometimes it does not even restart and logging out does not solve the issue and I have to restart the computer. Also, when I restart the computer, the Wacom takes a very long time to became active. Wacom has made us buy new tablets and it is a disaster. The old one worked just fine... for many years. The new one is simply will not work. Very frustrating.

João what I'm trying to say is that I suspect the battery inconsistency is related to the driver issue. I see inconsistent battery percentages when the driver freezes, restarts, etc. I think this is related to the overall driver issues. I was not having problems with my tablet battery until updating to Sonoma. Please keep us updated on a fix. In the meantime, I'm not particularly interested in wasting more of my time talking to someone else from customer support. The situation is already frustrating enough as is.
