Intuos Tablet turning touch on and off constantly
I have an intuos pro medium tablet on a Mac running OS Monterey. I'm working in graphics heavy programmes like photoshop, premiere and zbrush, but this problem is not specific to any software. My tablet is driving me absolutely crazy by turning touch on and off. It freezes the pen and tells me "Touch Off" on screen before working for a few minutes and then doing it again.
I've done all the usual things: reinstalled drivers, touch is disabled both on the hardware and in the preference panels as I prefer not to use it, but I have tried having it on to see if it will stop doing this but is just tells me "Touch On" instead. I also wear a glove when I'm working as I don't like my skin making the tablet greasy.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I just bought a new Wacom Intuos Pro and I have the same issues. With my own MacBook Air and with the MacBook Pro at work. The driver keeps disconnecting from time to time and it stutters and lags regularly as well. I have the newest drivers installed.
Is there a fix in sight? Otherwise I'll send it back with the warranty and change the brand. I'd rather not spend 250 euros for a device with faulty software, that keeps frustrating me.
Driver: 6.4.4-5
MacOS Sonoma 14.00 -
Please add a Software switch in the menu to turn off the touch. your hardware is failing left and right the internet is full of posts about people's physical buttons failing. my touch switch button does not work anymore. I need to be able to turn of touch via software

Add a software switch to disable the touch functionality and everyones problems would be instantly solved. is this planned obsolecence?

Having the same problem. Every 30s or so it disconnects and connects again. I'm on a Wacom Pro M PTH-660, version 6.4.4-5. Mac Mini, OS Version 14.2.1 (23C71).
I'm starting to suspect Wacom knows exactly what the problem is, and they don't care, or can't do anything about it.

This could be me BUT for EVERYONE experiencing issues listen up. I've been running an older version of the driver ....vers 6.3.42-1 on Sonoma 14.2.1 and have gone 2 months without issue. So, try uninstalling your current driver, find and download the old version I just listed on their site , install and reboot. See what you think.

This Wacom user of 24 years is completely fed up with this issue. Installing the latest driver does not fix the issue. I can not work with this device. Wacom does not seem to care. Can anyone suggest an alternative tablet? I see there are a lot of new competitors on the market. Where should power users look?

I'm using windows OS and Wacom driver 6.3.11-4. That is the oldest driver version I found, and my Wacom still disconnects like every 5 seconds. I tried the other driver versions but same results - stuck in connect/disconnect loop. I could not use it, literally.
My setup is solid (no moving parts) so I know it's not the usb cable.
From the comments, it seems the issue is already several months old and there is still no solution.
Is there anyone from Wacom here? Is there already a fix for this?0 -
Hi michael aligan,
The thread you are commenting on was for a Mac OS issue what was fixed a while ago with a driver update. Since you are using Windows, I suggest you contact our support directly. Also even if there are no moving parts, it does not guarantee that a cable or a port can't become defective so please double check your connections to be sure.

Hi João
Many of us are still having this issue and are ready to jump ship on Wacom.
If there is a fix we are missing please post it here?

Hi Isabel Freeman,
If you are still experiencing this or a similar bug, please report this properly as per: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/10010268158103-I-want-to-report-a-driver-bug-How-do-I-collect-Wacom-driver-logs
This is the only way we can ever fix this rare bug.
Brett Clark As helpful as the work around is (don't get me wrong, we appreciate that you are really trying to help everyone) rolling back to a previous version without providing the logs doesn't help on the long run.
Our request would be to collect and send the logs to the support team, and then roll-back to a previous version if needed.

Is not fixed for me. It must at least three times that it’s been declared solved in a new driver, only to discover that the lags and disconnects persists. I’ve pretty much given up by now. Using my mouse until I can by a pen tablet of a different brand. It’s a shame, cause I was so happy with my wacom for a long time.

Hi Andreas Thaulow,
Then please submit a bug report https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/10010268158103-I-want-to-report-a-driver-bug-How-do-I-collect-Wacom-driver-logs

No thanks João. I've spendt way too much time on trying to get this tablet work properly. I'm going to buy an Ugee or a Xencelabs.

The problem has stopped for me, fortunately. My Intuos Pro M on a Mac M1 is working fine, if not with a tiny bit of a lag. Andreas Thaulow curious how a Ugee or a Xencelabs turns out for you …

I have the same problem since last year, I use a Wacom Intuos Pro M (PTH-660) on iMac (27-inch, 2019) with Sonoma and also on MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019). The tablet has never given me any problems and I have had it for several years. I have done everything, I have reinstalled old and new drivers, I have formatted the iMac and MacBook and the problem still continues, the Touch turns on and off constantly.
I bought a new pencil and the power cable when the problem started, because I thought they had been damaged or something and yet everything is still the same. I already feel disappointed in this tablet.
I have thought about buying a new one, but I no longer dare because I don't know if the same problem would occur. :(0 -
Hi Victor Bonilla,
As I have asked the previous users, please submit a bug report https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/10010268158103-I-want-to-report-a-driver-bug-How-do-I-collect-Wacom-driver-logs
This is very important.

Hi João,
I am still having this problem with my Intuos pro M. I have uninstalled the old driver en re-installed with the latest driver (6.45-3). The 'freezing' time seems less long, but still, about every 2 minutes 'touch on' appears on my screen and is a small freezing of the pen function. How can this be resolved?
Many thanks in advance & Kind regards

This is amazing—a year later, and several driver releases, and promises of each driver fixing the issue, and it's nowhere near resolved. I am absolutely livid at how I have to unplug the Wacom, kill/restart the drivers, and/or reboot my Mac several times a day.
Wacom has ONE job... to build a pen tablet. You'd think after 20+ years of creating a product, you'd be pretty good at it. I've built PCs in the 90s, and worked with bad or annoying drivers, but always got things to work. This tablet takes the cake on the worst drivers I've ever dealt with.

I guess Wacom must still be selling plenty of tablets, AC, because they don't seem to be particularly concerned with resolving this issue. Is anybody's hair on fire over there? Not such as you could tell.

Same here. Issue starts and stop randomly. At least let us know what the problem is Wacom.

Years of this issue and I'm pretty angry about it. All the updates do nothing to fix the issue. It's unbelievable to me that Wacom has no easy fix for this. I"ve tried every update and nothing helps. To my surprise and dismay I am actually considering buying a tablet from another manufacturer. Longtime loyal Wacom user here driven away by a stupid bug. How many users are having to consider this? How many have jumped ship to end this nightmare?

I am with Gabriel on this considering a competitor. I have never owned a product from another tablet manufacturer in the 15 years I have been using one. I am so disappointed to see that this has been a topic for several years and nothing has been done. Like another user I bought a new tablet thinking the last one was needing to be renewed and it seems to be an even bigger issue now.
So disappointed.

I'm having the same issue here with my Intuous Pro M.

Hi, Wacom I'm not happy and the new tablet that I actually prefer because of the touch and it's smaller design really driving me crazy, keep disconnecting or the pen freeze and you have that touch off / touch on message. Even after 1 year, this problem is not solved, I'm under mac and just installed the new driver from June 2024 and the problem still persist. I have to keep reactivate the drivers or login / logout. Such a waste of time in the middle of production. I also use my pen to avoid having hand issue so it's also an ergo setup for me, I never use any mouse. This is not acceptable for a company like Wacom and telling us to waste time reconnecting the drivers or login-logout, just this take more than 5 minutes and push you out of what you are doing. Been 15 years I'm using Wacom products and I miss my old tablet that never got disconnected. I'm using the PTH-460 small, I don't need anything fancier than this and I need an easy and small carry on tablet. Please fix this issue ASAP. Also the radial menu that keep popping is annoying and it's not needed. So keep in mind we use your products for production so it's important we don't go true those annoying bugs.

Yep, still an issue for me too - incredibly frustrating and making the Wacom almost unusable. What the heck guys? When will this be fixed - we've paid money for this.

I have this exact problem and I have a strange solution.
I'm using the Intuos Pro small tablet. I use the pen and touch depending on what I'm doing. I'm on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra running Ventura, and I was getting the stuttering/stopping cursor following by a 5 second pause then the "touch on" message. Made things virtually unusable.
Then I discovered that it only happens when I'm using Photoshop or Media Encoder, both Adobe products. I don't use any other similar packages like ZBrush or other paint systems, but I have discovered the problem only happens when I'm running these programs. Especially Media Encoder. Not as soon as I run it, but as soon as I start processing. In Photoshop I'm not sure what activity causes it but it happens a lot, although not as consistently and frequently as with Media Encoder.
When I'm doing anything else on my machine the tablet runs flawlessly.
In addition, when I come out of Media Encoder or Photoshop, more often than not, the problem goes away. But every so often, the touch function stays "broken", that is, touch doesn't work at all while the pen does. The solution for that is this... in the early days of the problem I thought maybe my sweat was alien and it was causing the problem. So I would clean the tablet surface with isopropanol. This almost always got the touch function working again. But here's the crazy bit... turns out the isopropanol isn't needed, and it doesn't seem to be a dirt/sweat issue either, because i can replicate this process several times within minutes. So now I simply rub the surface with a kleenex I keep on the desk, vigorously for about 10 seconds and the touch functions starts to work again!
I know it's sounds nuts. But I've been running like this for about 3 weeks now and it's consistent. So when I run Media Encoder I just don't do other things as much. But if I need to I can manage. Photoshop is a little trickier to manage.
I realize this doesn't let Wacom off the hook. This is still a problem. But maybe the info here will help some other folks.

This is a good one. I just reverted to a way older driver and it’s been flawless for over a year now. No issues.

This bug is not fixed. I've been living with this bug for 2+ years. In fact (I kid you not) - I even upgraded my computer thinking that may fix it. I've upgraded every driver and probably spent like 8 hours doing all sorts of complicated fixes to solve this. The good news is that the bug just slows down my work, vs. totally crashing.
On an average day, the "touch on" comes up about 15 times a day and during that time my pen stops working for 5-7 seconds. Luckily, it works okay after so I've just been living with it.
I also get a new bug where it makes my screen flicker and some website start scrolling slowly too.
Please let your QA team know this bug is not fixed. Thank you.0 -
I'm also having this AWFUL problem in novembre 2024... I've been having it for a couple of years now, but a valiant customer support rep found a solution : you COULD kill the wacomtouch process in activity monitor. It did work for a couple of years, as mentioned... Now not anymore: with the new driver you CANNOT kill the process at all! If you kill it, it spawns back!! lso if you try to change the name for the app behind the process, the mac gives you an error message in a WINDOW and they sum up, and require you to press on the "OK" button to dismiss them!
This is a travesty: the most expensive piece of input I own, and the one that is driving me crazy...
