SOLVED [Main post] [Mac OS] Modifiers (Shift, Command, Control,...)+ click not working with pen clicks after 6.4.4-2
This is the main thread regarding the new found issue with Wacom Driver 6.4.4-2 for Mac.
Please keep all your comments about this issue under this post.
Issue: When performing clicks while holding any modifier (Shift, Command, Control,…) on Mac OS, the expected action will not work. Using the same modifier with a mouse still works.
Status: Issue has been reproduced and is being investigated with high priority.
Recommended steps:
- Follow this post for updates. This way you will be notified once there is an update
- When the issue happens, it can sometimes be recovered by using the driver restart feature from the Wacom Center
NOTE: Doing this more than once may be needed to restart the driver correctly - Roll back to the previous driver version from here: https://www.wacom.com/en-de/support/product-support/drivers
Uninstall steps are available here: https://support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500006264581-How-do-I-uninstall-and-re-install-the-Wacom-driver-on-Mac-OS-for-a-Pen-Tablet-Pen-Display-or-Pen-Computer-

THANK YOU ever so much!
Mouse-damaged-arm was rapidly in progress, and I was considering other options. It seems to be working now with Sonoma 14. Thanks again :)

I've just downloaded the latest driver released on Nov 13, I also have the latest Mac OS release 14.1.1 and am up to date with Photoshop and I still cannot use alt/shift/cmd keys as I did before - not great. Feels like we're Beta testing for you... can this be resolved pls ASAP...?

Have we finally put an end to this long and enduring saga? As I read the release notes accompanying 6.4.4-5, we have solved both the modifier key and the intermittent disconnect/reconnect problems. My first post about the latter issue was on Reddit's r/Wacom thread and goes back to last April! I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but from initial reports, we seem to now have a stable and reliable driver for our Intuos tablets. Let's hope this happy end won't be upset at the next MacOS update.
Thanks to João for his patience and congratulations to all the code writers for licking this problem. Judging from the time it took to solve, it must have been far more complex than we thought. Might make an interesting case study…

I cannot reproduce this with driver 6.4.4-5 on an M2 with 14.1.1.
Can you confirm if this happens only with PS, or also with Finder or other Apps?
Either way, please collect some logs and report to the support team as soon as you can:

Hi Joao
I've just finished deinstalling and then reinstalling the latest driver and for the last few minutes everything is back to normal now. I'm not sure why and how this happened after my original install but all now seems good. I work mostly on a MacBook Pro 2019 maxed out with memory and processor but it's not an M series. But... thanks for your all your efforts, we seem to be back to normal. Appreciate it was a challenge for you all but big thanks from us al!

6.4.4-5 says: Using your pen to click while pressing a keyboard modifier key (Shift, Command, Control, etc.) will perform the expected action.
That's not true (again), using Wacom with After Effects some keyboard modifiers are ignored. Again. I remember that I had this discussion with Wacom 7 or 8 years ago. Same problem (or at least result) with the modifier keys being ignored. After talking to support for a while they suggested to go back to a previous driver.
I really don't understand that there are multiple driver updates a year, not sure what they fix, but you can bet something will break. But worse, a known problem that has reoccurred for years is apparently not tested for when releasing a driver update. The fact that it reoccurs makes it seem that the problem is never fixed, just patched and patched again and again. I remember once when it was 'fixed' in some driver update, but only for single modifier key, not multiple modifier keys? That not a fix, that's a poorly done half-arsed patch. Maybe a real fix is not possible?
So please please please, if you can't fix it, at least whenever you want to bring out an update to the driver, first test if the modifier key (single and multiple) patches still work (should be high in the list since it's a reoccurring problem), and if not, first patch them again before releasing the driver.
So now I'm going to figure out which driver is the latest that works, doen't crash (6.3.44-2 still seems to work) but also doesn't keep 'alerting' me that Touch is Off. I know, there is is physical switch for that, it is always set to off, please don't bother me with useless information.
If only Wacom had a real competitor...

I have the latest Mac OS 14.1.2 and the latest Wacom driver for my Intros Pro. I don't use Bluetooth- I only use the tablet with the cable plugged in. The tablet disconnects often after the Mac wakes from sleep. (meaning pen nor buttons do anything at all) Not every time though. I unplug the USB charging cable on the side of the tablet and plug it back in. The orange light turns on briefly and the tablet reconnects. Is the consensus that I should install the driver before 6.4.4-5?
